The WhatsApp Payment Feature is now live for some selected users in India, bringing yet another digital payment option to the country. The WhatsApp Payment feature will let users send money and receive it directly to your bank account, eliminating the need of mobile wallets using WhatsApp messenger.

It uses UPI (Unified Payments Interface) to enable these direct bank transfers partnering with ICICI Bank. The only criterion is that both the sender and the receiver should have the UPI payment option enabled. Users will have to accept the terms and conditions and verify their mobile number via SMS to activate the UPI.

Popular banks like HDFC, Axis, ICICI, Airtel Payments Bank, SBI, Yes Bank, Andhra Bank, Allahabad Bank, Punjab National Bank, etc. all are on the list. Here’s everything you need to know about how WhatsApp payment feature work

To know whether the WhatsApp’s Payment feature is available for you, just see if have the new Payments option under Settings. If so, go ahead and access the new feature. And if not, do wait for a while until its available.

How to add bank accounts for WhatsApp’s Payment

To get started with the payment feature,we need to add a bank account to it. Here’s how we do that.

Firstly, Move on to Settings in Whatsapp >> Payments.Tap on Add New Account option under Bank Accounts sub-heading.Then click Accept and Continue to continue adding bank account details.You will be prompted to verify your mobile number when you tap on Verify via SMS. Complete the verification. Then on the next screen, you will have to select the bank whose account you want to add and proceed further with the details. Once configured, you will be able to send money to other users on WhatsApp from within the chat itself.

How to send money via WhatsApp Payment

At first, open the Chat of the WhatsApp contact to whom you want to send money. Check for Attach button and click on that in the android phones. iPhone users can tap on the ‘+’ icon. Tap on Payment and then enter the amount you wish to send. Enter the UPI pin of the account for authentication. The amount will be shown as a message in the conversation part of the Whatsapp chat window once the money is sent. You can also send money to individual members in a group chat, if they have enabled the Payment option.

WhatsApp will maintain a log of all your transactions done using the Payment option. You can check the log by just moving on to Settings >> View History option.
