Reliance Starts WhatsApp Based Online Shopping Portal JioMart

JioMart is Reliance Retail’s E-commerce company. Three days after Facebook Inc said it would invest $5.7 billion in digital assets managed by Mukesh Ambani, Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) began testing its online shopping platform in the midst of a lockdown.

JioMart went live in three communities surrounding Mumbai on April 26th, exploiting a deal that gives it access to the 400 million users of WhatsApp in India currently under the most expansive lockdown in the world.

Ambani, Asia’s richest man, takes the launch of the portal a step closer to his goal of setting up a digital platform to take on Amazon and Walmart’s Flipkart in an e-commerce industry.

Ambani said the tie-up with WhatsApp would help nearly 30 million Indian mom-and-pop shop owners take digital payments from customers in their communities, in a statement released via video on April 22.

How to book grocery on JioMart?

  • First connect to your phone JioMart’s WhatsApp number-88500 08000.
  • JioMart will then have a connection to position your order; the connection will only be available for 30 minutes.
  • Once you pick goods, JioMart will submit along with the invoice a connection of the email address and email of a nearby store on Google Maps.
  • If the order is ready, the customer will receive an SMS from the store in question, and will only have to pay at the store and collect items from there.

Shares of Reliance Industries shot up to 4.1 per cent in Mumbai on Monday. This year, the stock has dropped by about 3.2 per cent compared to a 23 per cent slump in the S&P BSE Sensex index.
