RoboCopy GUI is an easy-to-use command-line tool designed to simplify working with the RoboCopy utility. The graphical interface supports copying all files, directories, and subdirectories from a source folder to a destination folder. In addition, the tool supports most of RoboCopy functions.

If you don’t have specialized skills necessary to work with RoboCopy, take advantage of RoboCopy GUI tool.

A Few Words about RoboCopy

RoboCopy (aka Robust File Copy) is a command-line replication tool designed to copy files and directory trees. Some twelve years ago, RoboCopy had a status of an independent tool. Still, in a year or so, someone saw its potential to become a part of the system32 directory on every Windows Vista computer.

RoboCopy is also a flexible and easily configurable tool supporting more than 80 switches on Windows 7 and later computers. The tool can help you deal with batch files and synchronize the existing copies on your computer. RoboCopy also comes in handy when you need to backup folders or directory trees. By using this tool, you can be sure that all NTFS attributes and properties are copied properly.

The program also features additional restart code, which allows resuming copying a task once the connection is re-established after network interruptions.

It is also convenient to use RoboCopy for backing up individual files and entire folders.

RoboCopy Switches

If you want to check all available switches, open Start Search for Command Prompt, right-click the result, and select the “Run as administrator” option. Type in cmd and follow it up with robocopy /? After pressing the Enter button, you’ll see all switches and parameters.

We recommend that you check the /mir and /z switches for starters. Still, you should be careful when using the /mir switch, which erases the source folder when the copying process is complete.

RoboCopy on Windows OS

One more switch worth our attention is /MT, which allows users to copy their files using multiple threads. The multi-thread feature spares you the bother of selecting, copying, and pasting required files manually, which is a quite time-consuming process. Copying files in multiple threads substantially speeds up file transfer. To take advantage of this feature, type in the following command and don’t forget to hit Enter:

robocopy C:\source\folder\path\ D:\destination\folder\path\ /S /E /Z /ZB /R:5 /W:5 /TBD /NP /V /MT:32

The max integer number for this command is 120.

RoboCopy GUI

Though we wouldn’t call RoboCopy a professional utility, either can we say it’s suitable for novice users. It is highly desirable that you have previous experience with the command-line user interface to use the utility to its full potential. However, if you lack essential skills, you may avail yourself of the Microsoft RoboCopy GUI from the official Microsoft website.

Make sure to familiarize yourself with a detailed guide on how to use a graphical user interface to the Microsoft RoboCopy prior to installing and utilizing the program.
